Description
AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT PROPOSAL CALL 0018 Recovery Act Near Term Energy-Efficient Technology Demonstrations and Research This contract action was accomplished using competitive procedures. This contract action was not awarded as a fixed price contract type because uncertainties involved in contract performance did not permit costs to be estimated with sufficient accuracy to use any type of fixed price contract. As such, a cost-reimbursement type action was awarded. (FAR 16.301-2) In accordance with FAR 15.403-1(c)(1), adequate price competition existed. DESCRIPTION: This award will demonstrate high efficiency solar cells for space and near space applications. These solar cells will respond to the space solar spectrum, converting solar energy to useable electrical power for DOD and commercial satellites. The technology being developed also has applicability to use in concentrator systems for terrestrial power generation. Tasks will focus on development and optimization of the materials and processes to fabricate these solar cells. The effort includes engineering confidence testing to ensure that the solar cells developed can survive the harsh space environment.
