Description
The US Army Contracting Command, Joint Munitions & Lethality ContractingCenter, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ on behalf of the Office of the ProjectManager Soldier Weapons is issuing a Market Survey for information andPlanning purposes only, and does not constitute a Request for Proposal(RFP). The requirement is for Firm-Fixed Price, M26 MASS productioncontract which includes a base of 11,923 and four Option Periods for anadditional 13,132 MASS systems. The Government plans to solicit(FY11-FY14) requirement Sole Source to Vertu Corporation, 7555 Gary Rd,Manassas,VA, 201109-2608. This qualification contract is scheduled forsuccessful completion this September 2009. Vertu Corporation was selectedfor the R&D and qualification testing under contract W15QKN-05-C-0456.The M26 MASS must attach to the M4 Carbine without significantly increasingthe weapon profile or affecting the hosts weapons reliability, availability,and maintainability. Compared to the current 7-pound Mossberg M500 shotgun,the M26 MASS must maintain reliability, accuracy, be compact and weigh 3.5pounds. The MASS will securely attach to a primary weapon the M4 Carbine withthe potential for attachment to future rifles and carbines and utilize theprimary weapon sighting system. The MASS shall be capable of being removed orattached to the primary weapon without the use of tools and utilizing a quick-disconnect feature while maintaining bore alignment with the primaryweapons sights. The Army requires the MASS to be used as a standaloneshotgun with a sighting system and an integrated or attachable MIL-STD-1913rail to attach various ancillary devices. This 12-gauge shotgun will providethe user with door breaching, lethal, and non-lethal capability during closequarter combat operations. The MASS must be a lightweight and an easilymaintained weapon capable of operating in all climatic environments. The MASSwill be manually or semi-automatically operated and capable of firing allcurrent U.S. Army standard 12 Gauge Ammunition, to include the 2 3/4 inch,3 inch Magnum 00 Buckshot, the M1012 and M1013 Non Lethal round, and theM1030 Breaching Round. The MASS will permit the quick transition from nonlethal to lethal rounds. The MASS will permit door breaching and shot shellemployment while maintaining primary weapon control. No award will be made asa result of this market survey. All information is to be submitted at no costor obligation to the Government. The Government reserves the right to reject,in whole or in part, any private sector input as a result of this marketsurvey. The Government is not obligated to notify respondents of the resultsof this survey.
