Description
RECOVERY ACTION. For Informational Purposes Only. This action is Work Authorization No. KA/NS03/9/ARRA-1 and is issued under M&O Contract number DE-AC52-06NA25396. This action is funded by Recovery Act dollars. The M&O Contractor DUNS number is 175252894. The description of the work involved under this Work Authorization is shown below. Advanced Technology R&D augmentation. As part of a Laboratory-University-Industrial Collaboration, LANL is to determine if Bi-2212 is a viable candidate for high-field magnets at 22T and above. The first year's funding of $223K will support the initiation of developmental 1 studies of Bi-2212 conductor. The $223,000 was provided for the first year work on a Laboratory-University Collaboration for the Development of Magnets with Fields, 22 Tesla Using HTS Conductor program as described in the field Work Proposal laboratory-university Field Work Proposal (FWP) number FNAL-08-22 dated 9/17/08. The second year the contractor may manufacture wire with best silver alloy, complete heat treatment studies of Bi-2212 wire, manufacture wire with best Bi-2212 powder. Upon completion produce detailed report on composition, alloy, and heat treatment studies. Currently, the second year may or may not be funded. Justification for Non-Fixed Price Type of Contract for WA* (added to description in FedBizOpps): This was awarded as a Cost-Reimbursement Type because of uncertainties in contract performance. Costs cannot be estimated with sufficient accuracy to use any type of fixed price contract. The work consists of Research and Development. and therefore, it a cost-reimbursable type contract. It is a collaboration between the Laboratories and a university for the development of magnets. The work is described but not defined and is very complex in nature.
