Description
Warm River Fish Hatchery Bridge 20154-2.3 Ashton/Island Park Ranger District Caribou-Targhee National Forest Intermountain Region 4 US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service Location:T.10N. R.44E. Section 10 NW ¼ of SW ¼ Boise Meridian, Freemont County, Idaho. The project site can be reached by taking State Highway (SH) 47 from Ashton, Idaho toward Mesa Falls to the junction with ID-47/NFSR 20367. Turn right on NFSR 20367 and travel north for 3.5 miles. Turn right at intersection with the Warm River Fish Hatchery Road and go 1.5 miles. From Ashton, total distance is about 12.4 miles on pavement and about 5.0 miles on dirt road. Objective: The Caribou Targhee National Forest proposes to replace a structurally deficient 32’ long bridge at the warm river fish hatchery and replace it with a 50’+ Bridge. Work will include removal and disposal of existing structure off National Forest Lands, and shaping the stream bank per plans. Work may also include replacement gate and post near structure as an optional item. Gate and post would be supplied by the government. Work for gate installation will likely include augering a 4’to 5’ deep hole and backfilling with concrete. Construction: Materials, construction, and workmanship shall be in accordance with THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR CONSTRUCITON OF ROADS AND BRIDGES ON FEDERAL HIGHWAY PROJECTS FP-03, US Customary units, and applicable FOREST SERVICE SUPPLEMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS. Background: In 2006 during a routine inspection, rot was discovered in the downstream stringer above the second abutment. The concrete abutments constrict the channel and have fully exposed rebar due to deterioration and section loss. Also noted in the inspection reports is a spring at the second abutment. The site is adjacent to the Warm River Springs and there are many areas where the water seeps through the ground. Abutment design on this side of the river shall include subsurface drainage. There is a Parking area/Turn-around area prior to Abutment 1 that should still be accessible after finish approach grade is constructed. Superstructure is likely to be a Precast/Prestressed Concrete Superstructure on Treated Timber Abutments and Wingwalls or approved equal.
