- The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) intends to award a Sole Source, Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) contract, under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) part 13, Simplified Acquisition to: MenloSystems Inc, 69 Stickles Pond Road, Newton, NJ 07860. SAO will procure a Ti:Sa fs-oscillator: Octavius-1G including a pump laser Coherent Verdi V8 and Repetition Rate Stabilization electronics. This laser is a duplicate of the Octavius laser currently located at the 60 telescope on Mt. Hopkins. We require the duplicate system to study the properties of the system presently being used to calibrate the TRES spectrograph. The North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) is 334516. The size standard is 500. Contractors interested in this requirement should submit a complete technical package that provides clear and convincing evidence that they can meet SAO's requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, SAO will consider all responses received by the publication due date of this notice. A determination by SAO whether or not to compete this acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of SAO. Responses must be received on or before July 1, 2009.
