- Description
- The Recovery Action project entitled “Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline MIE at SNS Full Funding (ORNL)” allows the acceleration of two major efforts (HVAC and Utilities) that are part of the overall Fundamental Neutron Physics Beam (FNPB) external experimental building at the Spallation Neutron Source at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The FNPB project is a beam-line that will deliver record peak currents of cold and ultra-cold neutrons for studying the fundamental properties of the neutron, leading to a refined characterization of the weak force. The DUNS number is 0991142870000. Rationale for using other than a fixed price and/or competitive award: As the Management and Operating (M&O) contractor, UT-Battelle is responsible for all activities at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the facilities located at the site. The Statement of Work (SOW) for the ORNL M&O contract primarily addresses the conduct of basic and applied research and development (R&D) to advance scientific knowledge, the nation’s energy resources, national security and environmental quality and to strengthen educational foundations and national economic competitiveness. However, also included in the SOW are requirements for many other non-R&D types of work consistent with the Department of Energy’s mission. The work referenced in this synopsis has been reviewed by the Contracting Officer and determined to be within existing scope. UT-Battelle anticipates numerous subcontracting opportunities for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded projects and plans to conduct competitive, fixed-price procurements for much of the work. Many of the subcontracting opportunities will be directed at small businesses.
