- Description
- The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) intends to award a sole source purchase order to Germann Instruments, Inc. for the Air Void Analyzer (AVA) 3000 system, AVA 2260 Verification Kit and one day training by an AVA specialist. Germann Instruments will provide concrete testing instrument capabilities by characterizing the air void system of plastic concrete. The testing determines the air-void characteristics of fresh concrete by expelling the air bubbles present in a given mortar sample, collecting the air bubbles and recording their quantities, and calculating their size distribution. The assembly, the sampling equipment and materials must be designed and built to function as an integrated system that is demonstrated by the manufacturer to accurately measure and calculate air-void distribution in fresh air-entranced concrete. Additionally, the system will determine the freeze-thaw durability of concrete. Because Germann Instruments is the sole manufacturer and sole distributor of the product and system they are considered the only source for the services. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is July 20, 2009.
