- Development of applications utilizing the terahertz spectrum in fields such as medicine, remote sensing, and communications has been hampered by a lack of terahertz radiation generation and detection technology. Sandia National Laboratories seeks to close that gap by developing its intellectual property (U.S. Patent Application 11/698,010 (Integrated heterodyne terahertz transceiver) and U.S. Patents 6,049,308 (Integrated resonant tunneling diode based antenna), 7,376,403 (Terahertz radiation mixer), and 7,420,225 (Direct detector for terahertz radiation)) in both terahertz radiation generation and detection. Reasonable investment is expected to produce viable, market-ready technologies. Sandia invites interested parties to join with Sandia in developing the possibilities of the terahertz spectrum by partnering through a Work for Others (WFO) agreement, Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), and/or licensing agreement. WFOs and CRADAs are expected to include funds-in to Sandia. A negotiated license to the existing Sandia patents and patent application is available for reasonable consideration. Sandia is a multiprogram laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the United States Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration under Contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
