- RECOVERY. This notice is provided for informational purposes only. General Atomics, 16969 Mesamint Street, San Diego, Calif., 92127 was awarded a contract in the amount of $32,727,170 (not-to-exceed), including $13,000,000 in 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding (Project number 4201S). The contract is for development of a prototype Hybrid Electric Drive (HED) system for a full-scale demonstration. HED is aimed at improving the operating efficiency of the engineering plant on DDG-51 Class Ships and is intended to demonstrate the capability for significant fuel savings by incorporating advanced electric machine technology. This supports the national defense imperative to reduce dependence on foreign non-renewable energy resources. The contract was competitively procured under a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). Due to the nature of the effort being research and development in new technologies, the contract will be definitized on a cost plus fixed fee basis. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, D.C. is the contracting activity.
