All devices and materials shall comply with current VA specification 28 31 00, Fire Detection and Alarm; NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code; NFPA 70, National Electric Code; NFPA 90A, Installation of Air Conditioning and Ventilation Systems; NFA 91, Exhaust Systems for Air Conveying of Vapors, Gases, Mists, and Noncombustible Particulate Solids: NFPA 101, Life Safety Code and UL9 Code for fire alarm systems. The contractor must have a registered Texas Fire Alarm Planning Superintendent for the supervision of the project and installation will by a Licensed Fire Alarm Technician or under the direct supervision of a registered Texas Fire Alarm Planning Superintendent. The contractor will be required to maintain operational capability of the system at all times. The contractor will be required to respond to system malfunctions or failures within two hours of notification of problems with the system. The fire alarm system will have multiple points connected to the VA telephone system to send alarms to a fire alarm monitoring company. Work will include the installation of pull stations, speakers for voice announcements and horn strobes in buildings 9, 10 and 45 and speakers for voice announcements in building 8. This items will be a deduct for the project if necessary. A network monitoring device will be installed to record the status of the system and all malfunctions and fire alarms. This device will also have the capability of printing the status and malfunctions and alarms on the system. It will also have the capability of displaying the location and status of all devices on the system at any time. This device will be located in Engineering Service in a location to be determined. A complete set of drawings showing location of devices will be submitted in AutoCAD 2005 format or other AutoCAD format approved by the VA Engineering Service upon completion of the project and must be submitted within 30 days of acceptance of the project.
