- INTRODUCTION: Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab); corporate name Fermi Research Alliance LLC or FRA is a high energy physics laboratory and is constructing a large detector in Minnesota and a smaller detector on site in Batavia, Illinois. The detectors will be fabricated from highly reflective PVC raw material powder developed and supplied by Fermilab and described in section (6) of the attached appendix, The NOvA Experiment. The structural quality of the extrusions will be of the highest standards as the extrusions make up the structural foundation of the detector. The extrusions when assembled and stacked will be outfitted with end-plugs and fiber manifolds then filled with a mineral oil-based liquid scintillator to collect light produced by ionizing radiation. The approximate cross section of each extrusion is 66mm high X 635mm wide. (See attached drawings: MD-444188 Rev A & MD-444189 Rev A) The extrusion will be cut to 51 foot, additionally, a 6" piece will be parted and delivered as a representative sample of each extrusion.
