- GENERAL These specifications describe the approach to be taken and products to be utilized in the restoration of acoustical ceiling tiles in Leamy Hall at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. Ceiling restoration is a system of cleaning and coating to restore ceilings to a like new appearance with better than new functionality. SUMMARY A. Provide materials and labor to perform acoustic ceiling restoration work in various areas throughout Leamy Hall. B. Ceiling restoration work shall be conducted on successive evenings and nights, so as not to impact building operations during the work day. C. The work is divided into three areas, which will comprise the Base Item, Option Item 1, and Option Item 2. 1. Base Item: The work in the Base Item consists of restoration of approximately 8,600 sqft of existing acoustic ceiling. Areas included are the Ballroom (Room 301), Upper Lounge (Room 401), and toilet facilities (Rooms 411 and 412). The 5,000 sqft Ballroom has a 22.6 ft ceiling height and stairs leading to the upper lounge area. The Ballroom and upper lounge ceilings are continuous. 2. Option Item 1: The work in Option Item 1 consists of restoration of approximately 3,100 sqft of existing acoustic ceiling. Area included is the Lower Lounge (Room 302). 3. Option Item 2: The work in Option Item 2 consists of restoration of approximately 3,100 sqft of existing acoustic ceiling. Areas included are the Outer Lobby (Room 303), the Upper Lobby (Room 304), and the Lower Lobby (Room 202). The Lobby areas are connected by two stairways. D. Replace broken, cracked, sagging, or missing ceiling tiles. In addition, contractor shall provide two packages of extra ceiling tiles that are coated with restoration tile coating for future use. E. Clean all HVAC registers in ceiling that are not coated in this project but are within the specified work areas. F. Provide an on-site dumpster for the disposal of empty product containers, plastic sheets, drop cloths, masking materials, and other waste from the ceiling restoration work. A mandatory on-site visit has been scheduled at the Coast Guard Academy on August 11, 2009.
