Description
The Women’s Bureau is seeking a contractor to work with the Boston Regional Office to train 10 -15 women in Region I for jobs with good wages in the fields of renewable energy, construction, and energy efficiency. The participants will be recruited by the contractor, and should be selected from a pool of unemployed or underemployed women who are facing income challenges. The training period will be for one year, beginning after award of contract to the successful offeror. Participants will receive on-the-job training installing solar tracking systems at sites throughout Vermont selected by the contractor in consultation with experts in the field. Participants should be trained in insulating and air-sealing. Upon completion of training, participants should receive the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certificate or its equivalent. Hence, the women will be helping to reduce regional carbon emissions. In addition, women will also receive training and mentoring in energy efficient window and door replacement, equipment operation, and energy auditing. Selected participants should be new to the field. The women’s new skills will be used to improve the efficiency of 25 affordable housing units in Burlington, VT. The contractor’s work could be used as a model both for training women for green jobs and as a method for offering housing agencies and land trusts assistance in improving the efficiency of low and moderate-income housing across the country. Quotations can either be faxed to Debra Reynolds at 617-788-2833, mailed to US Department of Labor - OASAM; 25 New Sudbury Street, Room E-215; Boston, MA 02203; Attention: Debra Reynolds, or hand-delivered to the JFK Federal Building at 25 New Sudbury Street, Room E-215 Boston, MA to the attention of Debra Reynolds.
