Description
Sandia National Laboratories offers access to its unique user facilities. New proprietary and nonproprietary agreement forms require minimal, if any, negotiation and are quickly executable. Sandia National Laboratories’ (www.sandia.gov) unique research facilities are available for use by U.S. industry, universities, academia, other laboratories, state and local governments, and the scientific community in general. The Department of Energy’s (DOE) new model agreements, one designated for proprietary research and the other for nonproprietary research, have simplified the process for gaining access to DOE facilities and promote smooth technology transfer from DOE laboratories. The proprietary agreement allows users access to laboratory equipment to perform commercial research. Proprietary users pay full cost recovery to Sandia through DOE. The nonproprietary agreement allows users to access equipment and facilities and to collaborate with laboratory scientists. Work must be noncommercial, precompetitive, basic science research. Nonproprietary users only pay the cost of their own research, and all data produced is made publically available. DOE has made Sandia’s Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) a designated science user facility. CINT will begin using the new proprietary and nonproprietary user agreements in the near future. For a number of other Sandia user facilities, known as Technology Deployment Centers, DOE is permitting the Labs to continue using the current User Facility Agreement. These facilities include the following: • Advanced Battery Research, Engineering, & Evaluation Facility • Center for Security Systems; Combustion Research Facility • Design, Evaluation and Test Technology Facility • Electronic Technologies User Facility • Engineering Sciences Experimental Facilities • Explosive Components Facility • Geomechanics Laboratory • Intelligent Systems and Robotics Center • Ion Beam Laboratory • Materials and Process Diagnostics Facility • Mechanical Test and Evaluation Facility • National Solar Thermal Test Facility • NUFAC Nuclear Facilities Resource Center • Photovoltaic Laboratories • Plasma Materials Test Facility • Primary Standards Laboratory, Pulsed Power and Systems Validation Facility • Radiation Detector Materials Characterization Laboratory • Shock Thermodynamic Applied Research Facility For more information regarding Sandia’s user facilities, visit http://sandia.gov/bus-ops/partnerships/tech-access/facilities/index.html.
