- BID REQUEST FOR INFORMATIONVA-247-09-RA-0251 Project: Renovate Coronary Care Unit, Project # 521-08-105, Birmingham, Alabama Contract Specialist: Tracy Riley RFI #2 Question: After reviewing the drawings and specs, then comparing them to the solicitation on the project noted above, I have become confused. The solicitation for the project, on page 1 of 214, under Alt4ernate Bid Item 2, states, Provide all work specified in main bid with the exception of new patient headwall units. Head wall units are to be repaired and re-laminated. I am confused because on Sheet A-101 of the drawings, all of the Demo Notes (5, 21 and 22), Construction Notes (13, 24, 25 and 26) and the notes on Detail 4 Typical Cardio Care Unit which apply to the headwall, are all written to indicate that a refurbishment of the headwall units is taking place. I need clarification on what the intent is. If new headwall units are required as part of the base bid, much additional information needs to be provided. A drawing elevation is needed to show the location of all required shelving, lighting, med gas connections, vacuum connections, power outlets, and other specialty connections for the new headwall. Information is needed regarding depth of headwall and placement within the room. A specification and list of acceptable manufacturers is also needed. There may be additional information which is required that I cannot think of at this time. If the intent is to do the refurbishment, we appear to have sufficient information to bid this scope, but the solicitation would require revision. Please clarify the VAs intent regarding this area of the scope of work. VA response: The VAs intent regarding this area of the scope is work is to adhere to the bid requests shown on page 1 of the solicitation package. New headwall units are desired as part of the base bid. Below is the information needed to bid the job. The manufacturer for the headwall unit is Hill-Rom and the style is Elements. An approved equal is allowable. The location of all required shelving, lighting, med gas connections, vacuum connections, power outlets, and other connections will remain in their current locations. The website for Hill-Rom is http://www.hill-rom.com/usa/AP_Elements.htm
