Description
RECOVERY: Tuttle Creek Dam is located in Manhattan, KS. The dam has an emergency gate that closes the conduit by its own weight. The gate is lowered via wire rope attached to a 30 ton crane. It is desired to measure the gates weight as it is closing. It is believed that closing the gate in high pools may be difficult or impossible given the friction forces on the gate. To measure the gates weight, a load sensing instrumentation is required to be purchased. The instrumentation must satisfy the following: "Capture load between 0 and 40,000 lbs, with a data acquisitioning systems total error near 1%. Manufacturers specifications shall be supplied with calibration data. "Capable of acquiring data while submerged. "Minimum sampling rate 2 Hz. "Capable of transmitting data to a hand-held gauge (5 digit display) approximate 175ft away. "Mountable to the hook, lifting beam, or gate in a way that does not require repairs to the hook, lifting beam, or gate upon removal of the instrumentation. "The device shall not be connected to the lifting apparatus (hook or wire rope) in a way, as defined by EM 385-1-1 that modifies or requires reassembly, such that load tests are required each time the device is installed or removed. The 30 ton cranes hook is a Special No 17 Vulcan Hook; the lifting beams eye has a 6 diameter hole with 2 thickness. The eye screws into the lifting unit with 3-3 N.C. -2 threads, 4 long. "Have a factor of safety of 5. A load rating certification for the device is required. "Made of stainless steel.
