Only one responsible source and not other supplies or services will satisfy the agency requirements to: Prior to 2005, Apple PCs and laptops were able to function with only an Apple Operating System. During, the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2005 Apple announced that the company would make the transition from the use of Motorola processors to the more popular and powerful Intel processor. Currently with the availability of the Intel Core Duo and Intel Xeon processor based platforms Apple is able to attain an astonishing level of performance. The need for a high performance platform is essential in the ability of the 262nd Information Warfare Squadron (IWAS) to continue to be at the leading edge of the Air Force network security assessment capability. During normal operations, the current Apple operating system is a Linux based operating system, integrated with the VMware Fusion 2.0 application we are able to configure a laptop and desktop with as many as 5 Virtual computers all operating simultaneously in the same operating environment and utilizing the hardware resources of the Apple platform. Because the Linux Operating system and the VMware Fusion are both based in Linux the performance capability that we are able to achieve is exponentially Intel based Windows operating system. The performance gains are possible largely because Windows based operating systems limit the hardwares ability to access the Operating systems kernel and its control of the Hardware access layer. The MAC OS is a powerful development platform, bringing a 32-bit and 64-bit architecture available on all laptops, desktops and server. The 262nd IWAS continued requirement to conduct active network assessments and provide a powerful efficient development platform for network centric tools and scanning programs. The squadron is currently using two IMAC desktop computers, but they were produced prior to 2005 and are not able to be utilized to support this current requirement. The 262nd IWAS requirement to support remote mission operation and continued advanced network assessment tools can only be met with the purchase of Apple computers. Based on the above justification of technical superiority, performance enhancements computers that operate with the latest Apple operating system and Intel based architecture and the ability to seamlessly integrate with numerous simultaneous virtual machine environment. Delivery of the product and service will be not later than 15 Oct 2009. All quotations received within 7 days after date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether a competitive procurement. For specific questions, please contact Heidi R. Weber, Contract Specialist, heidi.weber@ang.af.mil (509) 247 7224. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement not later than 4 PM, PST, Sept 11 2009.
