Description
Appendices 4-5 Appendices 1-3 The RFP Document The Smithsonian Institution is America's premier cultural institution and a forerunner in the field of scientific research, with 19 museums and 9 research centers, 158 affiliated museums around the country, a strong membership program and outreach through Smithsonian magazine (2 million subscribers), and linear HD and on-demand programming with Smithsonian Networks. The Smithsonian seeks a partner(s) that can best draw from the strength of its reputation and its varied and unparalleled collections to create a multifaceted publishing program. The Smithsonian Institution's Smithsonian Enterprises division ("SE") is seeking one or more publishing partner(s) for its Smithsonian Books Publishing ("SBP") program to conduct one or more of the following: i) licensed family reference publishing; ii) licensed children's publishing; iii) adult trade narrative nonfiction publishing; iv) first right to publish Smithsonian-content trade titles in science and technology, biography, natural history, art and history; and v) distribution for Smithsonian Books' frontlist and backlist trade and commercial book titles. See the chart " Smithsonian Books Publishing Program Components " for further description of these categories. While the Institution would like to work with one partner for the entire SBP program, it recognizes that not every publisher will be able and willing to undertake all components of the program. So the Institution will consider contracting with more than one publisher/distributor to ensure that each component of the SBP program is successfully covered. The Smithsonian is seeking distribution services beginning on April 1, 2010, and publishing services beginning on July 1, 2010. Interested offerors should promptly acknowledge receipt of this solicitation and advise the Office of Contracting and Personal Property Management ("OCon") of its intent to submit an offer. This request to express intent is merely a courtesy and is not compulsory. Proposals must be received by 2:00 P.M., DC local time on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. They must be e-mailed to: Contact: Cindy Zarate E-mail: zaratec@si.edu THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION FOR A FEDERAL CONTRACT AND IS THEREFORE NOT GOVERNED BY FEDERAL PROCUREMENT PROCEDURES. The RFP and associated appendices are attached. If any additional information concerning this project is required, please contact Cindy Zarate at (202) 633-7290.
