- Under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, the U.S. Army Natick Contracting Division, 1 Kansas Street, Natick, MA on behalf of the United States Army-Soldier Systems Center, Natick, MA intends to negotiate and award a contract on a sole source basis with National Academy of Sciences of 2101 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20418-0006 to employ a panel of world-recognized scientific experts to complete two phases. The first phase will be to review the metabolic responses and primary physiological sequella of neurotrauma and potential nutritional implications. It will include an overview of types of Central Nervous System (CNS) related neurotrauma (primary effects) that are most commonly associated with combat operations. The second phase will assess whether the secondary health disorders associated with neurotrauma might be affected by nutritional status of the individual. Additionally, to review nutritions potential role in the prevention and recovery from CNS-related neurotrauma injuries. Market research indicates that only the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies Food and Nutrition Board has the skilled professional staff and resources necessary to perform the tasks required to conduct this study.
