- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District is issuing a Sources Sought Announcement for a construction project Repair Reduction Gear at the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier, New Bedford, Massachusetts to determine the interest, availability, and capability of Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, 8(a), HUBZone, and Small Business concerns as described below. The NAICS code for this procurement is 238290. The estimated construction cost is between $100,000 and $500,000. The project is planned to be issued on or about 1 October 2009 and the contract performance period is 7 months. The work of this project includes but is not limited to the following: Rebuild existing 25 HP Philadelphia Gear, 1750 to 1 reduction gear, original order number 402600, serial number 56065, located on the New Bedford side of the New Bedford/Fairhaven Hurricane Barrier. Provide new Timken roller bearings, new fabricated steel bottom end caps, new fabricated steel stuffing box, and new worm gear drive unit (Philadelphia Gear model 775VTF). Reduction gear unit shall be disassembled and cleaned on site. Gear/shaft/bearing assemblies shall be removed from the housing and transported to Contractor's shop. Shop work includes replacement of all existing Timken roller bearings with new Timken roller bearings, and performance of visual and non-destructive magnetic particle inspections on all gears to determine their condition. Minor re-dressing of gears is included in shop work. Gear/shaft/bearing assemblies shall be returned to the site, and the entire gear unit shall be re-assembled with new end caps, new stuffing box, new vents and drains, and new worm drive unit. Gear unit shall be re-aligned with the gate and motor driver. A no-load spin test shall be performed, and following successful completion of that test, the gear unit shall be given a full load test by running the navigation gate through a complete close/open cycle. Interested firms should submit a capabilities package to include the following: business classification (i.e. HUBZone, etc.) as well as qualifications and experience in performing the work requirements stated above. Please include a specific example of the firms relevant experience. Responses are due 23 September 2009. Firms interested shall provide the above documentation in one original form and one copy. The Government will not pay for any material provided in response to this market survey nor return the data provided. This notice is for information purposes only and is not a request to be placed on a solicitation mailing list nor is it a Request for Proposal (RFP) or an announcement of a solicitation. The results of this survey will be considered to be in effect for a period of one year from the date of this notice.
