- Description
- The Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (GDP) Decontamination andDecommissioning (D&D) Project solicitation is being issued for D&D of the excess GDP facilities and characterization and remediation of associated soils. The DOE Portsmouth GDP is located near Piketon, in south-central Ohio. The Portsmouth GDP was built in the early 1950s as part of the nations nuclear weapons complex and enriched uranium from 1954 until 2001. Since then, the Portsmouth GDP has been in Cold Standby, followed by Cold Shutdown (CSD). Currently, DOE is transitioning from CSD to a full-scale mandated GDP cleanup mission. The Portsmouth GDP is a 3,778 acre Federal reservation with 415 facilities that includes buildings, utilities, systems, ponds and infrastructure units. Approximately 315 facilities are included in the Portsmouth D&D Project. Of the 315 facilities, 133 buildings, and nearly 10.6 million square feet of floor space, including the three gaseous diffusion process buildings will be decommissioned.
