Description

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs, Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, Waco VA Medical Center intends to make a sole source award to Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Inc. This requirement is for the VERSANT HCV Genotype 2.0 LiPA system. The requirement is a one year firm fixed price rental reagent agreement for the analyzer, reagents, kits and assays needed to complete required testing by the medical center. This analyzer is specifically used by the clinical staff for the determination of hepatitis C virus genotype mandatory to tailor peginterferon-ribavirin treatment dose and duration. Subtype determiniation is useful to tailor specific HCV inhibitor therapy and interpret resistance profiles. This contract is a follow on to a previous award. The system has been in place at the Waco VA Medical Center for the past three years. The system and technology was previously owned by Bayer and has since been acquired by Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Inc. The variance levels, nomenclatures and other clinical aspects currently used in relation to this system have been in place for three years and any change within the testing environment would put patients at undue risk.
