- Description
- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 7 (Alaska) intends to award a sole source procurement to the University of Alaska Museum. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 7, requires rehabilitiation of paleontological collections and archaeology collections from Alaska National Wildlife Refuges. The contractor shall provide the following services and products: The University of Alaska Museum is the primary curatorial facility for cultural and natural resource collections from refuge lands in Alaska. The Museum is the only accredited Natural History museum in Alaska. It houses large, globally significant collections of paleontological resources. In consultation with the FWS museum property coordinator, the Museum will identify those collections from National Wildlife Refuges and begin rehabilitation. Furthermore, The University of Alaska Museum is the primary curatorial facility for archaeological collections from refuge lands in Alaska. The Museum currently houses over 480 FWS collections from all 16 Alaskan refuges. Most of these do not meet modern museum standards for care. The museum will begin to re-house the remains in museum quality packaging. The collection(s) will be inventoried and a computer catalog will be prepared. When the work is complete the collection(s) will be stable and accessible to researchers and the public. The University of Alaska Museum is uniquely qualified to provide these services. In 1996, the US Fish and Wildlife Service entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Musuem to care for the FWS collections from all parts of the State. Furthermore, these collections are physically present at the Musuem. The Archaeological Resources Protection Act and National Historic Preservation Act require archaeological collections from federal lands to be curated in respositories meeting stringent standards for physical security, staffing, and public access. The Museum has the space, technical expertise, and staffing for these collections in Alaska. This notice is not a request for competitive proposals and the Government does not intended to accept proposals received. See Numbered Note 22.
