This is a sources sought notice published for market research purposes only. Anticipated NAICS code is 115310. The Eastern Region, Region 9 is conducting market research on possible upcoming fuel reduction projects that may be issued within the boundaries of Region 9 that include the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York. Funds are not currently available or obligated for these projects. ( ) Yes ( ) No The Eastern Region Forest Service is interested in acquiring fuels management services to treat vegetation to reduce the hazard of wildland fires and restore fire-adapted ecosystems. This is intended to meet the intent of the National Fire Plan in accordance with Public Law 106-291, and achieve goals in Land Management Plans. It is the objective of a service contract to treat fuels present on units identified to reduce fuel loading and optimize the treatment of those fuels. The services in this contract are designed to provide for wildfire hazard reduction, prescribed burning, and related services. Project areas are located in reforestation areas, natural and managed stands of timber/woodlands of all ages, size, and species, shrub fields, or grass areas. Fuels will consist of harvest activity slash and live and dead natural fuels. Fuel loadings could range from less than ˝ ton per acre to as high as 100 tons or more per acre. This contract may require vegetation manipulation, including removal; burn unit preparation, prescribed burning and mop-up in compliance with its terms, specifications and provisions. This may include furnishing labor, supervision, transportation, operating supplies, and incidentals to perform all work necessary to conduct chipping, chopping, slashing, girdling, lop and scatter, selective slashing, pruning, fuel break construction, piling and cover, fire line construction and maintenance, fuels pullback, prescribed burning and mop-up, snag felling, pre-commercial thinning, mowing, herbicide application, and roadblock removal/restoration. Work may be performed mechanically and/or manually. Work may require specially designed equipment such as Type 6 Engines. The Forest Service is interested in obtaining responses to this Sources Sought notice from prospective contractors but no contractor shall be reimbursed for providing this information. Information provided in response to the request must be provided in writing and include a point of contact name, phone number and fax number and email address. Responses may be faxed to (814) 726-1465, attention Teresa Corse or emailed to teresacorse@fs.fed.us or mailed to USDA Forest Service, North Eastern Acquisition Team, 4 Farm Colony Drive, Warren, PA 16365. Please provide your response by 10/15/2009 if you are interested in these types of projects. In your response please indicate whether you are interested in any specific areas (e.g. Vermont, Pennsylvania, etc.) or if you are interested in all of Region 9 and what your capabilities are. Also indicate if you are planning to do the work as a Prime Contractor or will be utilizing subcontractors, and if so, how many. This notice is posted for the purposes of market research only and is not a request for obtaining prices.
