- Description
- Drawsheet Specification May 2007 The Department of Treasury, Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is continuously looking to improve the quality of the production materials used to produce US currency and to promote competition for these materials. One such material is draw sheets which are used for the intaglio printing presses. A draw sheet is an outer covering for impression materials and impression cylinders at the BEP for its intaglio presses. Draw sheets are typically a cotton fabric coated on one side with an elastomeric material. However, other materials such as synthetic fabric or a mixture of synthetic and cellulosic fabrics may also be considered in construction of the draw sheets. On press, draw sheets are subjected to temperatures up to 93o C and printing pressures of up to 2.5 tons per linear inch with a service life of 250,000 impressions. Approximate length × width dimensions of the draw sheets range from 27 × 38 to 34 × 44 inches with a caliper of 0.020 - 0.025 inches. For more detailed information and requirements please refer to the draw sheet specification. This is a future sources sought with no guarantee, implied or not implied, that any actual requirement will be established. Potential future sources are encouraged to review the specification and submit a company profile including business size classification. Based upon responses to this notice all interested potential contractors will be encouraged to attend an Industry Day at the BEP. Industry Day will consist of a guided tour of the facilities with a technical question and answer period and discussion to educate potential suppliers of the BEP's potential future requirements pertaining to draw sheets. The discussion will be on quantity/quality of draw sheets, type of draw sheet, shipping information, etc. If there is insufficient interest from potential draw sheet vendors, making an Industry Day impractical, the BEP may schedule individual tours. In lieu of attending the above Industry Day or an individual tour a sample product may be submitted for a pass/fail assessment. Interested parties are cautioned that developmental testing will only be scheduled based on availability of the Bureau's resources. All information shall be submitted to Kathleen Reidy, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Office of Acquisition, 14th & C Streets, SW, Room 708A, Washington DC 20228. If you have any questions regarding this notice, please contact Kathleen Reidy at e-mail: Kathleen.Reidy@bep.treas.gov
