Description
The requirement is for the purchase of EMC MDS blades to expand the existing enterprise SAN switch infrastructure and to provide consistent support of the SEC’s Enterprise Storage environment. Specifically this procurement is being used to support the Office of Economic Analysis in their market research project supporting the SEC. The SEC has already approved and purchased multiple EMC MDS SAN storage switches which are in production. The SEC is in the process of deploying additional storage support systems that use shared SAN as back-end storage. Specifically, EMC MDS is the architecture that is currently supporting SEC production systems and the new procurement is to add equipment within this architecture. EMC MDS storage products are critical to the project and production support. Several vendors can provide SAN switches, but these switches are not compatible with the existing architecture. Therefore, due to licensing, warranty, proprietary data and infrastructure compatibility requirements it would not be possible for another vendor to provide compatible services and similar hardware capable of meeting the SEC’s requirements. Cisco is the original equipment manufacture (OEM) of the current system, but all firmware and support for the MDS are provided by EMC. For maintenance and compatibility with the existing system EMC is the only known brand that meets this requirement. There is no known hardware manufactured by any other vendor, other than Cisco, that will work in the EMC/Cisco MDS chassis. The EMC/Cisco MDS blades that have been requested are propriety in nature. If other than EMC/Cisco blades are purchased the system may not function properly, if at all, and EMC will not support or maintain the system. If this requirement is prohibited from being processed as stated herein, failure of the system would inhibit the mission of the Office of Economic Analysis in their market research project in support of research efforts of the SEC.
