- Description
- THIS NOTICE IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. This opportunity is only available to the contractor who was awarded the contract for work in response to Solicitation No. AG-04M3-S-09-8114, “MEDICAL SPRINGS STEWARDSHIP, LAGRANDE RANGER DISTRICT, WALLOWA-WHITMAN NATIONAL FOREST”. The original solicitation was competitively advertised as an RFP. This project will be partially funded with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds and is subject to all reporting requirements thereto. The Medical Springs Stewardship contract is an integrated resource contract that includes road maintenance, road construction, ground-based logging, helicopter logging, thinning, pruning, and slash treatment. The contract included bases items and some optional items. Based on the funds available at the time of contract award, some of the thinning, pruning, and slash treatment were not awarded. THE INTENT OF THIS DELIVERY ORDER IS TO ORDER THE REMAINING THINNING, PRUNING, AND SLASH TREATMENT. This work will result in retaining healthy, vigorous understory trees at an average spacing of 20 feet to improve tree conditions and forest health, reduce ladder fuels located beneath overstory trees to reduce individual tree torching potential, provide a fuel loading profile that promotes defensible space for fire suppression, and for the re-introduction of fire in the project area. Fuel loading objectives relate to the remaining tons/acre and size of material left after treatment. Target fuel loading objective is 10-15 tons per acre. Slash treatment in helicopter units will be accomplished by hand piling, and the ground based units will be accomplished using mechanized equipment to masticate (chip) the slash. This project requires removal of approximately 5,871 ccf of saw timber and approximately 1,280 ccf of non-saw material (mechantable woody debris), which will be credited to the project. The resultant contract will be a firm-fixed price task order with requirements for timber removal. If you have questions about this project please contact Marianne Klingler Contract Specialist at (541) 523-1210.
