Description
Scope of Work:The contract physician will cover nuclear medicine, when the Chief of Nuclear medicine is on Leave (annual, educational or sick leave). He will provide both diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine services. He also should be able to report bone mineral density and PT/CT studies. The contract physician will provide these services at VACCHCS, nuclear medicine section of imaging service in Fresno. The contract physician will direct nuclear medicine technologists in patient procedures, consultation and review of emergency requests and will dictate the studies done that day, and place the reports in CPRS. The type's studies include diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures as well as bone mineral and PET/CT studies. The number of patient studies per day will be between 8 and 12. He will be sole physician covering nuclear medicine. 1.Specific Contractor Tasks include: 1.1. The contract physician will provide coverage during the regular hours of operation of nuclear medicine 8:00am- 4:30pm Monday through Friday and finish the reports on the studies done each day. There is no weekend or holiday coverage required. The hours are somewhat flexible to suit the physician work schedule. 1.2. The contract physician will use the regular physician's office to accomplish all the tasks including use of telephone, Dictaphone, computer access and clerical support. 1.3. The contract physician will be paid a flat fee per day as reimbursement. The VA is not responsible for transportation costs associated with this contract, and the incumbent is expected to provide their own transportation. No other direct or indirect expenses will be reimbursed. The contract physician's malpractice will be covered under federal tort claims act. 1.4. The total number of days of coverage by contract physician is approximately 30 which will be spread out in the year and amounts to approximately 0.14% FTEE. The reimbursement is based on negotiations between the contract physician and VACCHCS, Fresno. 1.5. Lilian Valdez, the Nuclear medicine secretary will keep track of the days covered by contract physician. She also will handle 2237 for reimbursement. 2.Additional contractor responsibilities: 2.1. The Contract physicians screen each patient prior to performing Nuclear Medicine studies. The screening process must be documented and provided to designated imaging staff during each visit. 2.2. Contractor is responsible for complying with all appropriate regulations and guidelines of the JCAHO, OSHA, NRC, or States DOT and other pertinent federal, state and local regulations 3.Qualifications: 3.1. The contract physician has an MD or DO degree. Also did residency in Nuclear medicine, in an approved program, preferably board certified or board eligible in the specialty. He also carries a state license to practice medicine preferably in California. He also should be qualified to be included as authorized user on the nuclear medicine license of the hospital from NHPP. 3.2. The contract physician will place an application for credentialing and privileging to the medical staff of VACCHCS, Fresno. His application has to be approved by appropriate committees and officials before starting the coverage. 3.3. The contract physician shall follow bylaws and rules of the medical staff. He also has to complete the mandatory employee training required by VACCHCS, Fresno. 3.4. The contract physician to perform his work will be given access to VA computers. He is required to follow all the security and HIPPA regulations as mandated by VA. 4.Quality Assurance and Contract Performance Monitoring: 4.1 The imaging service will monitor his work and comments will be included at the time of renewal of his privileges for medical staff. If any complaints are made by the referring physicians, each instance will be reviewed by the service and a report will be placed in the contract physician folder on the outcome. 4.2. The COTR (Lilian Valdez) has the information when the regular physician is on vacation and the department is covered by the contract physician. She is the authorized individual to place 2237 for payment to contract physician and it is reviewed by chief of Nuclear medicine for accuracy.
