Description
All Terrain Ski & Skins Request For Information (RFI) M67854-10-I-3004 Document Type: Sources Sought Notice Document Number: M67854-10-I-3004 Contracting Office Address:Marine Corps Systems Command 2200 Lester StreetQuantico, VA 22134-6050 Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM), PM-ICE Mountain Cold Weather Equipment Team is conducting market research to identify potential sources and best practice information regarding the availability, design, and development of a lightweight All Terrain Ski (ATS). USMC is upgrading cold weather equipment with newer technologically advanced items which weigh less and are more durable and reliable. The purpose of the ATS is to provide the Marine Corps with a short, lightweight ski that can be used by Marines to maneuver through snow and ice conditions in varied terrains, to include maneuvering through compartmentalized areas (wooded and rocky areas). The ATS must support a combat loaded marine weighing as much as 250 lbs. The ATS must be compatible with other components of the Marine Corps All Terrain Ski System: Ski Boots, Ski Binding, and Ski Poles. The following salient characteristics are desired in the ATS: 1. Skis will be a wood core, laminated finish with steel inserts for binding attachment reinforcement. 2. Skis will be of two sizes: 170cm (+/- 2cm) and 180cm (+/- 2 cm) 3. Ski width shall be:Tip(toe)110mm (+/- 3mm)Waist 80mm (+/- 2mm)Tail 100mm (+/- 3mm) 4. Weight of a pair of skis shall not exceed 5 lbs (+/- 6oz). 5. Skis will have a single camber. 6. Skis will be torsion ridged for ease of turning and edging. 7. Skis must perform intended functions in temperatures down to -40 degrees F. 8. Skis will have metal edges. 9. Skis must have tip and tail connectors for skins. 10. Skins must be easily affixed and removed. Skins must have full coverage for the above ski sizes. 12. Skin composition will be of a mohair and nylon blend (70% Mohair and 30% Nylon - +/- 5%). 13. Skins must be lightweight, and be easily stored in a Marines' pack. 14. Color of skins will be black. 15. Skis shall have a one-half inch hole in shovel for attachment of Marine Corps Casualty Evacuation Sled. 16. Skis will be capable of using prt-rimmed skins which allow for both gliding and climbing. 17. Skis will be capable of being used with a universal crampon. 18. Skis must be a dull snow camouflage pattern. Vendors who believe they have a product capable of meeting these requirements are requested to provide product literature, brochures, warranty coverage, business size, past performance and any other relevant information. Quantity and funding availability are unknown at this time. The Berry Amendment will apply to any contractual instruments that may result regarding these responses.
