- Description
- Genotype sheep This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for a commercial item prepared in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; quotations are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. The solicitation number AG6538S10AA07 is issued as a request for quotations and incorporates provisions and clauses that are in effect through FAC 2005-32. The NAICS code applicable to this acquisition is 541690 and 541711. CLIN 1 - QTY 1 - Illumina Ovine SNP50 Bead array genotyping on 138 sheep DNA samples The goal of this project is identify regions of the sheep genome associated with ovine progressive pneumonia (OPP), a disease caused by ovine lentiviral infection. DNA from 69 pairs of contemporary sheep (infect/uninfected) will be genotyped with a set of 50,000 DNA markers that are evenly distributed across the genome (Illumina OvineSNP50 Genotyping Beadchip). Because the pairs are matched for breed, gender, age, year of birth, line, flock history, and etc., those sheep resistant to infection may have an abundance of certain alleles not commonly found in their diseased flock mates. These alleles may have predictive value for US sheep producers. Identifying DNA markers associated with OPP resistance supports the USDA, ARS Animal Health National Program mission to deliver effective solutions to prevent and control animal diseases that impact agriculture. This also supports USMARC mission to develop scientific information and new technology to solve high priority problems for the U.S. sheep industry, and Animal Health Research Unit mission to understand the interactions between infectious agents and domestic livestock. These interactions are important because they may result in disease and loss of production. Reducing the impact of infectious diseases improves animal and public health. Technical requirements The provider must provide genotypes for 138 USMARC sheep for same single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) that are currently on the Illumina OvineSNP50 Genotyping Beadchip. These SNP markers are currently the global industry standard for ovine DNA genotyping and have been previously used on a reference set of USMARC sheep. All resulting genotypes must be returned to USMARC. CCR and ORCA: Vendor must be registered in the Central Contractor Register (CCR) and Online Representation and Certifications (ORCA) prior to the award of the contract.
