Description
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is soliciting bidders for stop gate and lifting beam painting and repairs at the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier, New Bedford, MA. The work of this project consists of painting and repairs for the stop gates and lifting beams at the New Bedford/Fairhaven Hurricane Barrier, Massachusetts. Specific work tasks include cleaning and painting the 35 stop gates and the three lifting beams, replacing rubber seals, seal retaining bars and bolts for all 35 gates, and replacing other miscellaneous components. Stop gates and lifting beams are stored in an area adjacent to the west side of the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier. The thirty-five stop gates are stored in stacks, with the skin side up. The three lifting beams are stored adjacent to the stacks. Upon completion of the job, the Contractor shall return the stop gates and lifting beams to their original location and configuration. All stop gates and lifting beams shall be cleaned and painted. Various components of the wheel assemblies and leaf springs shall be replaced. Structural steel cleaning, painting, and fabrication of necessary parts shall be performed by an organization experienced in work of equivalent magnitude. The Contractor shall be responsible for correctness of detailing, fabrication, and for correct fitting of new wheels, leaf springs, and gate seals. Substitution of sections or modification of connection details will not be accepted unless approved by the Contracting Officer. AISC-360-05 shall govern the work. Welding, if required, shall be in accordance with AWS D1.1. Note that all steel surfaces of the stop gates and lifting beams are coated with coal-tar epoxy. The North American Industrial Classification Code is 238290 with a size standard of $33.5M. This project is 100% set-aside for Small Business concerns. This solicitation will be available on or about 28 December 2009 and will be available for downloading by accessing the Federal Business Opportunities website (http://www.fbo.gov).
