This part requires engineering source approval by thedesign control activity in order to maintain the quality of the part.Existing unique design capability, engineering skills, and manufacturingknowledge by qualified source(s) require acquisition of the part fromthe approved source(s). The source(s) retain data rights, manufacturingknowledge, or technical data that are not economically available to theGovernment, and the data or knowledge is essential to maintaining thequality of the part. An alternative source must qualify in accordancewith the design control activity's procedures, as approved by thecognizant Government engineering activity.
