Description
Developers/manufacturers of mobile kitchens and JP-8 fired kitchen appliances are being sought. The U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center, Product Manager, Force Sustainment Systems (PM FSS), Natick, MA is conducting a Request for Information to locate potential developers/manufacturers for the Battlefield Kitchen (BK) and Battlefield Kitchen Appliances. The BK is being pursued as the replacement to the Army's Mobile Kitchen Trailer (MKT). The BK will be a trailer based kitchen, sized to feed up to 300 personnel at remote field sites. It will be towed by the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle and prepare the full range of military rations. The cornerstone of the BK concept is to standardize a modular appliance suite so the appliance compliment and location within the BK will be interchangeable for maximum versatility. The appliances will be multiples of 22 inches wide. It is envisioned that there will be single (22 inch), double (44 inch) and possibly triple (66 inch) modules. All modules will be 24 inches deep. The maximum height will be approximately 50 inches. The actual height will be based on the type of appliance and the final system design. The 50 inch figure is based on the requirement for C-130 aircraft compatibility which limits the total height of the BK to 96 inches. Assumptions include the trailer chassis will be 38 inches above ground level, floor and ceiling will require 8 inches, leaving 50 inches for the appliance. Specifications for both the appliance suite and the BK system are currently being prepared. The draft specification for the appliance suite is available on the following link: https://www3.natick.army.mil. The BK system specification will be available for release soon. Improvements over the current MKT will include closed combustion thermostatically controlled appliances, modular interchangeable appliances, hand wash sink with running hot water, integral electrical power source, JP-8 fuel fired appliances that require low electrical power for future inclusion of alternate energy sources, and powered ventilation hood with improved environmental conditions (including heat and noise). High efficiency, novel systems will be considered with simplicity, maintainability, and lightweight being the main design drivers. All interested firms and manufacturers, regardless of size, are encouraged to respond to this request for information. Information submissions should include available technology, product literature and illustrations, and relevant company background/experience. Information submissions must be received NLT 15 Feb 2010. Responses to this notice should be directed to: U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center, Product Manager Force Sustainment Systems, Food Service Equipment Team, ATTN: SFAE-CSS-FP-F (Glenn Doucet), Natick MA 01760-5057, facsimile to 508-233-5555, or email to glenn.doucet@us.army.mil. All information supplied will be considered confidential, unless otherwise specified by the firm or available from other sources without restriction. This Request for Information is for information and planning purposes only. This notice is not an Invitation for Bid (IFB) or a Request for Proposal (RFP) and is not to be taken as a commitment by the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center.
