- Description
- The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Region Seven (7), Alaska, intends to award a sole source, firm-fixed price purchase order with a base year plus four (4) optional years to the University of Oregon Museum of Natural History. The University of Oregon Museum of Natural History will prepare a complete catalog of material in the Nunivak Island archaeological collection, which is currently housed at the Museum. The Museum will also stabilize the materials and curate the collection in perpetuity. Archaeological work was conducted in the mid 1970's under Archaeological Resources Protection Act Permit (ARPA) and Dr. Nowak designated the University of Oregon Museum of Natural History as the final repository for the materials recovered from this work. ARPA requires applicants for an archaeology permit to designate a public repository for the remains recovered. As the collection was made on a wildlife refuge, responsibility for the care of the materials lies with the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service. The museum took formal, legal possession (Accessioned) of the collection several years ago. The Archaeological Resources Protection Act requires a public repository for the remain recovered. Prior to the mid-1970s no suitable repository existed in Alaska. The University of Oregon Museum was the designated repository for the Nuivak Island collection. Moving the collection from one museum to another is a legal and logistical effort that would result in substantial duplication of costs that the Government does not expect to be recovered through competition. This notice is not a request for competitive proposals and the Government does not intend to accept proposals received. See numbered note 22.
