Description
PROJECT DETAILS: The project (AZ PRA GRCA 12(7)) is located at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The project extends from about 0.5 miles east and west of Mather Point and south of the existing service road at Canyon View Information Plaza (CVIP). This project is for the improvements to the Canyon View Information Plaza and the Mather Point overlook at Grand Canyon National Park. This is the second phase of work and is the “architectural” side of the proposed improvements. This phase will require construction of a landmark feature, amphitheater, and restroom, shuttle bus stop (one at Mather Point and two at Park Headquarters) and Mather Point overlook improvements. The contractor for this project will be required to incorporate boulders and rocks consistent with the total overall theme for the Mather Point area. Principle work items include: Concrete pavement 3,600 square yards; concrete sidewalk 4,000 square yards; asphalt trail 3,000 square yards; roadway excavation 3,000 cubic yards; handrail installation 1,600 linear feet; boulder placement 350 each; rockery features 1,000 cubic yards; stone masonry features 250 square yards. This project contains one schedule and one option. The option is for the Mather Point improvements. The work includes architectural columns to link the pavilion area and the shuttle bus plaza. The Visitor Center shuttle bus improvements will be built as a special feature since the area is a key component for visitor’s arrival to the area and their overall experience. The contractor for this project will be required to work with the sculptor in the placement of the stones for both the Landmark Feature and the Amphitheater. The Mather Point improvements will consist of reconstruction of the concrete walking stair in its current location and will include new hand railings. A major element of this construction will be providing an accessible trail that begins on the western edge and ramps down toward the observation point. Stone walls and railings will be required along the ramp access to the point.
