- Description
- Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD), 12300 Dakota Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado intends to issue a sole source award to Chevo Studios, 3222 Tejon Street, Denver, Colorado to provide the following services: CFLHD has recently awarded a contract for a project (AZ PRA GRCA 12(7)) to provide improvements to the Canyon View Information Plaza and Mather Point Overlook at Grand Canyon National Park. Part of this project is construction of an amphitheater, landmark feature, and pathway improvements at the Mather Point Overlook in the Park. The work requires a company with prior involvement with the tribes, a proven history of creating large-scale engineered stone features, and a track record of exceptional craftsmanship and decision making in the field. These elements are integral to the success of the new interpretive features. They will need to be tailored to the site and adjusted / refined during the construction phase. In particular, the use of natural stone boulders requires ongoing artistic and structural decision-making on site. An exceptional degree of experience, collaboration, and coordination is required to ensure that the finished stone works are constructed in a manner that makes them both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound. In addition, all elements must be matched to the site and intended interpretive content and experiences. The task being considered would include design, location, detailing, fabrication and installation of specific features along the entry points from parking lots, along the path to the landmark feature, the creation of the sculptural stone elements at the visitor center plaza, landmark feature, amphitheater and pathway improvements at Mather Point Overlook. The installation phase will include field locating and etching of images in stone and concrete, specialized fabrication and installation of sculptural metal elements, selection and setting of feature stones, coordination with engineers on structural solutions for setting large and irregular shaped feature boulders, and ongoing problem solving and adjustments in field, based on evolving site conditions that arise once demolition and site preparation commence. The Government intends to procure from only one source under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. This will be a commercial acquisition using simplified acquisition procedures per FAR Part 13. This is not a request for proposals and no solicitation is available. All responsible sources may submit a capability statement to the Contract Specialist by 4:00PM MST, Monday, February 1, 2010. These statements of interest may be submitted by email to: john.hunt@dot.gov.
