- Description
- THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. INFORMATION RECEIVED WILL BE USED FOR MARKET RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY. RECOVERY - The National Institute of Standards and Technology seeks information on commercial vendors that are capable of providing Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) that are capable of cutting electrically conductive materials to precise tolerances utilizing a continuously moving vertical wire as an electrode and a fixed shape Sinker type electrode. The Wire EDM machines shall be new and of the manufacturer's current design which meets or exceeds the requirements that will be set forth in the solicitation. Movement of the primary axes (X, Y, Z, U, V) of the machines shall be accomplished through application of high resolution glass scales and AC digital drive or linear drive motors. The controllers shall have latest onboard technology to program the machines with and without the use of CAM software. After results of this market research are obtained and analyzed and specifications are developed for EDM Machines that can meet NISTs minimum requirements, NIST may conduct a competitive procurement and subsequently award a purchase order. If at least two qualified small businesses are identified during this market research stage, then any competitive procurement that resulted would be conducted as a small business set-aside. This procurement will utilize Recovery Act Funding if it is determined that responsible sources can satisfy the requirement. NIST has a need for a one Wire EDM that would meet the following requirements: 1.Available wire diameter ranges from.0008 inch diameter to a maximum of.010 inch diameter wire. 2.The machine X-Y-Z axis travels be a minimum of 8.5 inches in the X travel, 6.25 inches in the Y travel and 3.9 inches in the Z travel. 3.The machine work piece dimensions (Length x Width x Height) be a minimum of 10 inches x 6 inches x 3 inches. NIST has a need for a one Wire EDM that would meet the following requirements: 4.Available wire diameter ranges from.001 inch diameter to a maximum of.014 inch diameter wire. 5.The machine X-Y-Z axis travels be a minimum of 19.5 inches in the X travel, 13.5 inches in the Y travel and 16.5 inches in the Z travel. 6.The machine work piece dimensions (Length x Width x Height) be a minimum of 40 inches x 25 inches x 16 inches NIST is seeking responses from all responsible sources, including large, foreign, and small businesses. Small businesses are defined under the associated NAICS code for this effort, 333512, as those domestic sources having 500 employees or less. Please include your companys size classification in any response to this notice. Companies that manufacture such systems are requested to email a detailed report describing their abilities to andrea.parekh@nist.gov no later than the response date for this sources sought notice. The report should include achievable specifications and any other information relevant to your product or capabilities. Also, the following information is requested to be provided as part of the response to this sources sought notice: 1. Name of the company that manufactures the system components for which specifications are provided. 2. Name of company(ies) that are authorized to sell the system components, their addresses, and a point of contact for the company (name, phone number, fax number and email address). 3. Indication of number of days, after receipt of order that is typical for delivery of such systems. 4. Indication of whether each EDM Machine for which specifications are sent to andrea.parekh@nist.gov are currently on one or more GSA Federal Supply Schedule contracts and, if so, the GSA FSS contract number(s). 5. Any other relevant information that is not listed above which the Government should consider in developing its minimum specifications and finalizing its market research. All documentation should be sent to Andrea Parekh, Contract Specialist, at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Acquisition and Management Division, 100 Bureau Drive, Mail Stop 1640, Gaithersburg, MD 20899-1640. E-mail address: ANDREA.PAREKH@NIST.GOV. Submissions must be received by 3:00 p.m. eastern standard time on February 19, 2010. E-mail submissions are acceptable. All vendors are encouraged to respond to this notice, however, vendors who do not respond shall not be precluded from responding to any subsequent competitive request for quotation.
