- Description
- This is a modification to the synopsis entitled COMMERCIAL REUSABLE SUBORBITALRESEARCH PROGRAM - CRUSR - RFI NNA10CR001L which was posted on December 4, 2009. You arenotified that the following changes are made:This modification is addressed to commercial launch services providers only.NASA received responses to the initial request for information that indicate a promisingfuture for the reusable suborbital launch industry and the science that can be performedon such a platform. Some of the responses to the initial request were marked Proprietary or Confidential which prevents NASA from sharing the data received with the research community and whichalso makes it very difficult to solicit research proposals tailored to the vehicleplatforms. Therefore, NASA is issuing this modification to the RFI to requestinformation from the launch service providers that can be shared publicly. The information that is submitted in response to this modified request will be madeavailable to the public, including the research and development community and theeducation community at large, so that NASA can solicit research proposals in a fair andopen process.NASA intends to post the information submitted in response to this modified request onthe following or similar NASA websites:http://suborbitalex.arc.nasa.gov/NASA will list the information by company, with dates that commercial launch services areanticipated to be available. The CRuSR program office also plans to use this informationin presentations to the public as it builds interest in educational and researchopportunities.NASA realizes that precise data will not be available until many test flights arecompleted, so conservative estimates are acceptable. NASA also understands that industrycapabilities, and the fidelity of the vehicle environmental data, will improve over time. Please provide revised data as it becomes available so that it can be widely shared withthe research community. To facilitate this process, please provide specific informationas shown in the following list. Any information that is not provided can be listed asnot provided or proprietary, as specified in the response. Please provide separate information for each vehicle as necessary.A. Flight Operations Information(1) Planned start of commercial operations for payloads or passengers(2) How many passengers or payload spaces per flight(3) Planned frequency of flights(4) Location(s) of launch and landing(5) Typical flight duration(6) Maximum flight altitude(7) Typical duration of microgravityB. Payload information(1) Volume/dimensions available(2) Mass available(3) Maximum vibration to design for (4) Maximum g-load to design for: (i) Take-off (ii) Flight (iii) Landing(iv) Taxi(5) Normal operating pressure and temperature(6) Payload access before and after flight(7) Reduced gravity capability and quality of that capability (may be several levels)(8) Access to environment external to the vehicle (e.g., open, optical through windows, sample ports,)C. Passenger information(1) Maximum size or weight(2) Training required/provided(3) Access to payloads during flightD. Special capabilities(1) List other capabilitiesBe sure to include complete company contact information in all information submitted. For companies that do not wish to make any information publicly available, NASA willretain information that has already been provided as proprietary or otherwise sensitive(in accordance with its markings). Declining to provide the requested information willnot impact a companys ability to respond to future solicitations issued by NASA.All commercial launch service providers may submit a response to this request forinformation. It is not limited to those companies that responded to the initial requestfor information. The due date for responses is February 16, 2010 at 12:00 noon.Responses should besubmitted by email to Rachel.Khattab@nasa.gov.Documents related to this procurement will be available over the Internet. Thesedocuments will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWWbrowser application.
