- Description
- Estimated cost of project is between $1-5 Million The purpose of the project is to repair portions of the Buffalo Confined Disposal Facility #4 (CDF 4), perimeter dike. CDF 4 is located in Buffalo Harbor, NY and is situated in the outer harbor, adjacent to Lake Erie. It is designed to contain sediment dredged from the federal navigation channel within the harbor. The CDF consists of a perimeter dike which is constructed of sheetpile, core/filter stone and armor stone which serves to contain sediments within the facility and to protect the contained materials from waves, storms, and lake currents. The proposed work consists of repairing nine reaches of the perimeter dike totaling approximately 640 lf. Repairs will consist of grouting the voids within the stone of the perimeter dike adjacent to and on the CDF side of the sheet pile. The intent of the grouting is to re-establish a physical barrier near the center of the dike in areas where some of the sheet pile has shifted vertically and separated from the underlying filter stone. The grout must be placed to fill the voids in the dike stone in an area about 4' wide by 12.5' vertically. Grouting will start at the base of the armor stone and proceed downward through a 5-foot layer of underlayer stone, a 2.5-foot layer of core stone and extend about 5' into the filter stone. The Contractor will be responsible for providing a grout and grouting system to fill the voids as specified and verify that the installed material has adequately met contract requirements. Work will also include welding of some sheet pile interlocks. Prior to actually grouting the wall, the contractor will construct a test section where a replica of the wall is built, flooded with water, grouted, pumped out, and broken down to test contractors grout mixture. The work will likely require that all work be performed from floating plant. The plant may be located inside or outside the CDF perimeter. It is anticipated that a drill rig will be used to core through the dike stone to provide access for the grouting operation.
