The structure connects the Main Medical Center (Building 1) to the Animal Research Facility (Building 3). The parking garage is over the Utility Wing (Building 2). It has a steel infrastructure with partial concrete and brick walls, the walls have a concrete cap, and the floor is concrete with drainage structures. The garage roof is metal. It is proposed to construct the walls to full height with windows along the front and back, pedestrian and overhead doors at the car ramp and double doors at each corridor. The construction of the exterior walls are of metal stud and sheetrock composition with a brick veneer. The steel columns will have a fire rated Exterior Insulated Finish System (EIFS). Egress from the adjacent facilities is to be maintained with the construction of concrete masonry interior walls, thereby forming corridors, and installing pedestrian bridges over the areaway running across the front of the garage for continued egress. One of the bridges is to be retractable for equipment access to and from the subbasement. Finishes required will be painting of exposed steel structural members, painting of new and existing walls, installation of suspended acoustical ceilings (corridors only) and clear acrylic coating on the concrete floors. Utilities for the new enclosure will encompass installation of some ventilation units, a carbon monoxide system, a dry-pipe sprinkler system heat detectors, fire alarm system (to be tied into the main system), new interior lighting, emergency lighting, exit lighting and electrical receptacles, electrical distribution system, etc. Other work includes, but not limited to demolition of whatever nature, including removal of the existing drainage structures, canopy roofs over the exterior corridor doors, concrete floor restoration, infill walls where windows are to be removed and installation of new gutter system.
