Description
CONTRACT AWARD IS CONTINGENT UPON APPROVAL OF BIOLOGICAL OPINION At this time, USACE Portland does not have an approved Biological Opinion in place with the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) for dredging at the Mouth of the Columbia River (MCR). Until the Biological Opinion is approved, no dredging can occur at the MCR. It is anticipated approval of the Biological Opinion will occur in early April 2010. This synopsis has been amended to include Southwest Washington Littoral Drift Restoration and North Jetty Berm Disposal (Pump-ashore). Description: The purpose of this project is returning sand to the littoral drift of SW Washington which will provide sand to shorelines within the Mouth of the Columbia River (MCR) littoral cell using material from maintenance dredging from the Columbia River at the Mouth, OR and WA project. The following pumpashore work scope will be included in the 2010 medium-sized hopper dredging contract conducted for channel maintenance at MCR (North Coast Hopper 2010): Mobilization/demobilization for pumpout and upland disposal operations. The first portion of this work will be similar to the work in 2008 (North Jetty Berm Repair) which augmented the foredune in order to protect the North Jetty. Estimated quantity 20,000 cy. The second portion of this work will be similar to the work in 2002 which pumped material into the inter-tidal zone in order to supply sand to the littoral drift system. The material will be placed further north between 1500 and 4500 ft north of the North Jetty. Estimated quantity 300,000 cy. In-water work period for pumpashore operations: July 15-September 15. The description for a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) has been removed from this synopsis. A SSHO is required. For specific SSHO requirements see the solicitation specifications when advertised.
