- The US Army Research Development Engineering Command, Natick Soldier RD&E Center (RDECOM-NSRDEC) in Natick, MA, is releasing a Request For Information (RFI) for White Papers on helicopter long line equipment with a releasable cargo hook attached at the bottom of the line capable of being released remotely from within the aircraft. This equipment proposes to minimize the dangers associated with brown/white out conditions in adverse environments. The family of equipment must be capable of interfacing with the cargo hook of the Chinook (CH-47) and the Blackhawk (UH-60) helicopters on one end and the remote cargo hook (on the opposite end) must interface with standard Army Helicopter Sling Load (HSL) equipment. Army helicopter equipment is classified into two different weight ranges (10,000 and 25,000 pound capacity) and the long line equipment must be capable of handling the equipment within the load ranges. The new long line equipment shall have the following characteristics: 1) Capable of meeting the HSL requirements for helicopter sling equipment. Metallic components will have a proof load of 35,500 lb and 76,500 lb as well as an ultimate strength value greater than 50,000 lb and 125,000 lb respectively for the 10K and 25K sling sets. Textile components will have a minimum breaking strength of 50,000 lb and 125,000 lb respectively for the 10K and 25K sling sets. 2) Interface with the current HSL equipment (5,000 lb and 10,000 lb HSL cargo nets and 10,000 lb and 25,000 lb HSL sling sets). 3) Measure in length of 50 ft or greater. 4) Must be capable of multiple reuses without the need for refurbishment. 5) Electric devices are not restricted to only utilize aircraft or battery power. All interested firms, regardless of size are encouraged to submit a White Paper to NSRDEC in accordance with NSRDEC Broad Agency Announcement 09-11 which can be found at https://www3.natick.army.mil/nsrdecbaa.htm. Proprietary information will not be disclosed outside the U.S. Government. Nothing shall be construed herein or through the RFI process to commit or obligate the Government to further action as a result of this RFI.
