Description
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML), Hamilton, Montana has a requirement for the packaging, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste. RML requests proposals to establish an agreement with a provider for the packaging, transportation, and disposal of chemical waste materials to a federally approved hazardous waste disposal site(s). RML is a federal biological research facility operated by the National Institutes of Health in Hamilton, Montana. The selected Contractor will provide all labor, equipment and material to package, transport and dispose of chemical waste materials in accordance with applicable EPA, OSHA and DOT rules and regulations. Currently the RML is registered with the State of Montana as a Small Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator. For reference, during 2009 RML generated approximately 3,438 pounds of hazardous waste, all of which was shipped off-site to licensed disposal facilities. The wastes to be disposed are primarily spent chemicals generated during biological research; however, some wastes are generated from building maintenance operations. The wastes will not contain radioactive materials. Discrete chemical wastes streams generated by RML's biomedical research activities tend to be small in volume and often contain exotic chemical compounds and complex mixtures. RML laboratories and support activities annually generate approximately 600 to 700 containers of non-radioactive solid and liquid waste, usually ranging in volume from five milliliters to twenty liters. Approximately 1400 Liters (400 gallons) of chemical wastes are collected annually in satellite containers, ranging in size from 1 gallon to 5 gallons. A pre-bid Site Visit will be held at 2:30 PM MST on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 to discuss any matters related to the request for proposals. For complete information regarding this solicitation, please e-mail Tammy Luke at tluke@niaid.nih.gov for a "Request For Proposals" package.
