Description
The description of work The scope of work includes design, fabrication, installation, commissioning and acceptance testing of all the necessary primary and support systems to operate a completely integrated Altitude Test Facility for the purpose of system-level engine testing for Drive train and Mechanical Research at the new Army Research Laboratory-Vehicle Technology Directorate Facility. The primary function of the HESATF is to provide an altitude simulation chamber capable of testing complete turbo shaft and reciprocating engines (max. 500 hp) under simulated flight conditions. The altitude test chamber shall be capable of simulating altitudes between sea level (14.6 psia) and 25,000 feet (5.46 psia). The combustion air system shall supply -40 degrees F to 130 degrees F at -50 degrees F dewpoint to simulate engine inlet air conditions. The bypass cooling air supply shall keep the ambient air around the test engine below 150 degrees F and provide dilution air for cooling the exhaust gases. The exhaust system shall remove high temperature exhaust gases as well as control the simulated altitude pressure surrounding the test engine in the chamber. HESATF system also includes airflow conditioning, supply air, exhaust air, and dynamometer/gearbox/Torque-Meter. Other systems include process cooling water, electrical power supply, structural steel bedplate, CO2 Fire suppression system, and distributed control.
