- QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Question 1. Timing: We don't stock 11' long rails, so it will take us 60-90 day to fill this order. I would be shock if you are able to find anyone that inventories this quantity or that has the ability to manufacture this order in a 30 day timeframe. Is there a possibility the receiving date ARO can be stretched to accommodate the manufacturing time? Answer 1. The date has been changed to 90 days ARO. Question 2. Shape: Due to splitting the logs, we can't guarantee that the ends will always be triangularly shaped, but most of them will be. Answer 2. Not concerned about a perfect triangular shape. More important is the issue that the rail not be sawn or give a sawn appearance. If the rails are in fact split, (hand or mechanically) they will be fine. Question 3. Size: You mentioned minimum sizes, are there any maximum sizes? Answer 3. We would not want the ends (either) to be larger than seven or eight inches. Eight inches would be the largest ends that we would be able to accept. Question 4. Bark: Does it matter if the logs have bark on them? Answer 4. No bark. Question 5. Sweep: Do you have a max sweep that the rails cannot exceed? Answer 5. Sweep deviation should be no more than two or three inches. Preferable no more than two inches. Questiom 6. Payment: We normally require a deposit before initiating the splitting. Are there any provisions for any type of payment either up front or a progressive payment along the course of the way? Answer 6. Progress payment can be made as shipments are received. Question 7. Are the split rails to be Kiln dried. If so, what is the moisture content after being kiln dried? Answer 7. Not required to be kiln dried. Question 8. Is Black Locust the same as Yellow Locust? Answer 8. Many people refer to black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) as yellow locust. Yellow locust is not the correct name but since the inner wood is a yellowish/ brown color, many folks call it yellow. We are only interested in the type of locust (which technically is the black locust) that is commonly used for fence posts in the southeast. There is also a honey locust but that is not acceptable. Again, what many folks call yellow locust is actually the black locust. Question 9. Am I correct that the extented price should include the frieght? Answer 9. Yes. We have to consider freight costs to see how many pieces we can afford purchase. Question 10. Am I correct that the unit price should reflect the freight cost per piece? Answer 10. Yes, the unit price should reflect the freight cost per piece. Question 11. What are the zip codes for the three delivery areas? Answer 11. The Big Island VA zip is: 24526The Floyd VA zip is: 24091The Laurel Spring NC zip is: 28644
