- The Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) is seeking technical information for a pyrolyzer with a built-in trapping system used to volatilize various types of flame retardant materials. This Pyrolyzer is required to be incorporated with a GCMS (gas chromatograph mass spectrometer), and shall be compatible with all GCMS makes and models. The heating rate shall be adjustable from 0.01oC/min to 20,000oC /sec. The pyrolyzer equipment shall also include the following at a minimum: (i) a direct transfer line connecting to a GCMS so that chemical components of the volatile gases can be analyzed, (ii) a pyrolysis system with resistively heated coiled platinum filament for variable temperature control, and enable programmable fast and slow pyrolysis-heating rates in degrees per milliseconds to degrees per minute, (iii) a built-in trap that allows the user to pyrolyze sample in various reactant gases (e.g. air, oxygen, nitrogen etc.) The trap temperature is operable from ambient to 350oC, and the trap heating rate is programmable in 1oC/min increment to 600oC/min, (iv) two modes of operation: run and clean, (v) a temperature program that allows for up to 8 step of pyrolysis temperature profiles, (vi) The reactant gas must be vented from the system so that only GC carrier gas is sent to the GC, (vii) a dynamic headspace vessel with a minimum 25 ml volume, that shall allow pyrolysis of larger samples of up to 10grams. The headspace vessels purge time shall be programmable for 0 to 99 minutes, and its operating temperature shall be from ambient to 300oC. This Request for Information should be considered an open call for providing the governments pyrolyzer equipment needs. An USA manufacturer is required for the pyrolyzer to reduce parts and repair costs, and the risk of damage from shipping and handling. This RFI is solely for information purposes and does not constitute a solicitation or the issuance thereof. All information received in response to this RFI that is marked proprietary will be handled accordingly. Responses to this RFI are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract.
