- Description
- The Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) is seeking technical information for a microscale combustion calorimeter (MCC). The MCC is required to measure heat release rate and determine flammability parameters of a variety of flame-retardant materials. The MCC equipment shall include the following at a minimum: (i) a pyrolysis heater which is controlled by an algorithm based on the heating rate, to be able to have a constant ramping rate of 0.1 to 2oC per second, to a maximum set point temperature of 900oC. (ii) a combustion heater shall have a computer controlled heater for burning pyrolysis gases. The combustion heater shall be able to increase to a set temperature and holds the temperature within 2oC of the set point temperature with a maximum temperature of 900oC, (iii) a cold junction compensation and a temperature calibration routine to ensure the correct temperatures are measured and reported, (iv) a Mass Flow Controller which is computer controlled for maintaining stable and accurate flow rates with nitrogen and oxygen gases, (v) a compact, oxygen analyzer which is self powered with a 6 second response time and 0-100% oxygen range with a resolution of 0.1%, (vi) This MCC should be FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) approved and shall be built using the same patented technology as the FAA Micro Calorimeter. This Request for Information should be considered an open call for providing the governments microscale combustion calorimeter (MCC) equipment needs. An USA manufacturer is required for the MCC to reduce parts and repair costs, and the risk of damage from shipping and handling. This RFI is solely for information purposes and does not constitute a solicitation or the issuance thereof. All information received in response to this RFI that is marked proprietary will be handled accordingly. Responses to this RFI are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. Any information submitted will not be returned, and no payment will be made by the government for such information. Any information/samples submitted will not be returned, and no payment will be made by the government for such samples. Responses to this notice are to be sent to Pearl Yip, ATTN: RDNS-WSC-M, 15 Kansas St., Natick, MA 01760-5019. This notice is for market survey only. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTATIONS. POC for this request is Pearl Yip (pearl.yip@us.army.mil). Email your questions to US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development, and Engineering Center at pearl.yip@us.army.mil.
