Description
RECOVERY -- USDA has the need to upgrade its Sub-Central Chiller Plant. The project is consisted of, but not limited to, the replacement of a 350-ton chiller, cooling tower and associated mechanical, electrical and plumbing work; replacement of all condenser water and chilled water pumps; new heat exchanger; replacement of DDC controls with new web-based DDC controls; new motor control center; replace cooling tower enclosure and air intake louvers; architectural renovations including painting ceiling/walls and sealing concrete floor, cleaning and repairing of terra cotta wall tiles, extending concrete housekeeping pads and adding new grates and cap flashing over cooling tower exhaust openings. The construction work shall not interrupt USDA's sensitive building operation schedules; contractor must plan its work around schedules of USDA's executives and computer room operation schedules. The other existing chiller to remain will stay in operation throughout the construction period. Chilled water must remain available 24x7. A few chilled water outage(s) is possible but must occur rarely and over weekend(s) only; work that is scheduled during the outage must be fully completed by midnight Sunday of the same weekend so that chilled water is restored by that time. Each of the outages is approved only if USDA's sensitive operation schedule permits. Temporary power when required is provided by the contractor so that the 24x7 chilled water service provided by the remaining chiller is not interrupted. Due to the sensitive nature of the project and the limited availability of chilled water outages, contractor is required to have sufficient high skilled workers and manpower to carry out tasks that must be fully accomplished during the planned outages. A site visit will be held on Thursday June 10th at 10:AM. Interested parties will meet at the corner of 12th Street and Independence Avenue SW (USDA's Wing 1 entrance).
