Description
The work consists of the removal and disposal of heavy woody vegetation from the side slopes and crests of earthen dikes, along channel improvement areas, and adjacent to concrete floodwalls along the lower portion of the Blackstone River, the Mill River and the Peters River within the city limits of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. In addition, the work includes a short stretch of clearing along four dikes in the upper portion of the Blackstone River. All earthen dikes are approximately 10 feet high, with a 10 wide crest, and 2:1 side slopes. The work limits include the following: River Length of Dike Floodwall Length Channel Improvement Length River Blackstone Length of Dike 5600 feet Floodwall Length 1900 feet Channel Improvement Length NA River Mill Length of Dike 2000 feet Floodwall Length 820 feet Channel Improvement Length 1700 feet River Peters Length of Dike 550 feet floodwall Length 240 feet Channel Improvement Length 400 feet There is extensive woody vegetation on and adjacent to the dikes, along the channel improvement areas and adjacent to floodwalls in the reaches indicated above. The majority of the trees requiring removal are 2 4 inches in diameter, with some exceeding this size. The condition along the Mill River is considered the worst with some of the larger trees requiring removal approaching 1-foot in diameter. Specific requirements will include removal and disposal of all vegetation on: the dike crests and slopes up to 15 beyond the landward and waterward toes including removal of all root balls for those trees in excess of 4 in diameter at breast height; the channel improvement areas up to the top of the channel protection/top of floodway; and 15 beyond the land and water sides of floodwalls. All removal shall be in accordance with specified Corps of Engineer criteria for control of vegetation on dikes and levees, including treatment of roots. All disposals shall be in accordance with specified federal, state and local criteria.Spray herbicide will be applied. Prospective contractors must be EHAP certified due to the presence of High Voltage Transmission Lines along many of the project features.
