Description
Battelle, Pacific Northwest Division, Management & Operating Contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is requesting information from prospective offers to provide: • A Pulse-Amplitude Modulated (PAM) Fluorometer for measuring the photosynthetic properties in cyanobacteria and algae. The fluorometer unit should be able to determine the photochemical efficiencies (Phi) at both photosystems in cyanobacteria and algae within the same instrument. An additional requirement for the instrument includes a capability to record 77K fluorescence spectra. An instrument with these capabilities should also be able to facilitate investigations of electron flux, ratio of cyclic-to-linear electron flow, non-photochemical quenching, reaction stoichiometry, state transitions, antenna size, photoinhibition, and multi-algal contamination. The fluorometer should be able to handle low-cell-density suspensions of cells, e.g., approximately 1 µg/ml chlorophyll. Modularity of the components is necessary for the use of such an instrument for both cyanobacteria and eukaryotic algae. Additional capabilities are in-situ fluorometric determination of NADPH concentration and proton-gradient determination. Modern fluorometers often come with software, and thus an inexpensive computer may be necessary for operation. This Request for Information (RFI) is part of a market research effort that will best address PNNL's needs. This RFI is issued for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation. Battelle does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI, or to otherwise pay for information received in response to this RFI.
